| Why I Love Teaching: | Hello, my name is Kathie Nevins. I grew up in this area attending local schools and graduating from Lincoln High School. After graduating, I attended Sierra College and earned my A. A. degree in General Education. I then transferred to CSU, Chico to complete my education majoring in Kinesiology. I obtained my B.A. from Chico State and did my student teaching there as well. I then went into the Grad Program to obtain a Driver’s Education Credential and Library Service Credential. After graduation I was a substitute teacher in the local area, including several stints as a long-term substitute in Physical Education and Library. I also went back to school at Sierra College to take more science classes. I thus received my Supplementary Authorization to teach Science. In 1992 I decided to take a job as a seasonal cashier at Toys R Us. This turned into a 10-year career in which I was promoted several times to eventually become an Assistant Manager, and I helped open the Toys R Us in Roseville in 1996. In the summer of 2000, I started working as the librarian at the Rocklin Alternative Education Center. The following year, I started teaching Independent Studies as well as working in the Library. I continue to do both, as I love the library work and the interaction with the students, as well as the one-on-one meetings with my Independent Study students. I feel Independent Study is a wonderful program in which students can work at their own pace to obtain their educational goals. |
